From “No, Because…” to “Yes, If…” — A Magician’s Mindset

May 19, 2025 by Lisa

Shetland Sheepdog that represents Magician of tarotHow many dreams have we silenced before they ever had a chance to grow?

We tell ourselves:
"No, because I don’t have time.”
"No, because I’m not ready."
'No, because what if I fail?"

It’s a script we know well, one that is rooted in fear, scarcity, and self-doubt. We think we’re being realistic. Safe. Sensible.

But what if we rewrote the script?

What if, instead of shutting the door, we cracked it open? What if we said:

"Yes, if I make the time."
"Yes, if I take one brave step."
"Yes, if I believe in myself, even just a little."

“Yes, if...” Opens the Door to Possibility.

The Magician, a major arcana tarot cardIt’s not about blind optimism. It’s about conditional courage, honoring what’s needed while still moving forward. This shift is exactly what The Magician in the tarot embodies.

The Magician reminds us that we already have the tools:

  • The wand of inspiration
  • The sword of truth
  • The cup of emotion
  • The pentacle of grounded effort

But tools alone don’t create magic. Intention does. Action does. Belief does.

When we shift from “No, because...” to “Yes, if...,” we move from passive doubt to active possibility. We become the creators of our own story.

Let this be the moment you say: Yes, if I trust my light.

The door is waiting. Will you open it?

The Page of Swords and the Courage to Seek Truth

May 17, 2025 by Lisa

Red headed girl as the Page of SwordsThe Page of Swords has always felt like a wild spark of truth-seeking energy: sharp-eyed, fiercely curious, and unafraid to ask the questions others won’t. When I think of this card, I think of my niece. She’s only nine, with hair the color of fire and a fearless glint in her eye. And I can see her, clear as day, lifting the heavy sword that’s meant for someone older, someone stronger and saying, “Why not me?”

That’s the Page of Swords.

She’s the one who speaks up in the room full of silence.
Who dares to ask, “But what if we’re wrong?”
Who doesn’t wait for permission to start learning, investigating, or dreaming.
Even when the weight of the world feels just a bit too heavy...she lifts it anyway.

Seeking Truth, Even When It's Messy

Page of Swords from tarot minor arcanaThe Page of Swords doesn’t have all the answers. But she has something just as powerful: the willingness to ask questions. She is learning to think for herself, to see through illusions, to name things as they are - and as they could be.

Sometimes that makes her seem impulsive, intense, or even a little bit too much.

But that’s the edge of transformation.

That’s how we grow.

Tarot Reflection

  • What truth are you being called to explore right now?
  • Where are you being asked to pick up the sword, even if it feels heavy?
  • What questions have you been afraid to ask?

The Page of Swords reminds us that courage doesn’t always look polished. Sometimes it looks like a nine-year-old with wind in her hair, charging toward what’s right - not because she has all the answers, but because she dares to begin.

Let us all be that bold.

Let us all pick up the sword.

Slow Magic: The Wisdom of Temperance

May 17, 2025 by Lisa

Tumbled stones that represent the Temperance cardOne of my quiet joys is rock tumbling. If you’ve never tried it, let me assure you - it’s perhaps the least instant gratification hobby you can imagine. You begin with a rough, unpolished stone. In my case, I started with a raw piece of Lace Agate...jagged, dusty, and seemingly unremarkable.

Then the process begins. Over weeks and months, through cycles of coarse grit, finer polish, water, and waiting, something miraculous happens. The rough edges wear down. The colors deepen. And one day, you pull out something radiant. The stone is transformed, but not by force. Only by time, motion, patience, and trust.

Temperance, a major arcana tarot cardThis long, gentle process reminds me of the Temperance card in tarot. Often misunderstood as simply a symbol of moderation, Temperance is so much more than that. It speaks of blending, the alchemy of opposites. It invites us to slow down, to balance extremes, and to surrender to the wisdom of time.

Temperance doesn't promise quick fixes or dramatic changes. It teaches that true transformation - whether in healing, self-growth, or spiritual awakening - requires time and trust. Just like a rock in a tumbler, we, too, are shaped by slow cycles: of insight, rest, integration, and return.

So, I ask you:

What’s something in your life that’s slowly taking shape right now?

What are you trusting will be beautiful...eventually?

Whether it’s a relationship, a dream, or an inner shift, may you find comfort in the process. Let Temperance remind you: there’s beauty in becoming.

The Power of Potential: Tarot Aces and the Atom

May 17, 2025 by Lisa

At first glance, the four Aces of the tarot and the structure of an atom might seem worlds apart - one rooted in mysticism, the other in science. But both are powerful symbols of potential. When we look deeper, the connection becomes striking: each represents the spark of possibility, the beginning of something profound.

Aces: Seeds of New Energy

Ace of Cups from tarot minor arcana
Ace of Pentacles from tarot minor arcana
Ace of Swords from tarot minor arcana
Ace of Wands from tarot minor arcana

In tarot, the Aces represent the purest expression of their suit - raw, untapped energy waiting to be shaped.

  • The Ace of Cups brings emotional beginnings: love, healing, connection.
  • The Ace of Pentacles offers material potential: a new job, financial opportunity, or a fresh path in the physical world.
  • The Ace of Swords sharpens mental clarity: truth, insight, a breakthrough idea.
  • The Ace of Wands ignites creative fire: inspiration, passion, and the courage to act.

Each Ace is a seed. Not a guarantee, but an invitation.

The Atom: A Universe in Miniature

Now think of the atom. At its core, the nucleus holds immense power, surrounded by whirling electrons full of kinetic energy. Though microscopic, atoms make up everything - trees, stars, our own hearts. One atom alone doesn’t seem like much. But it has the power to bond, to build, to transform.

Like the Aces, atoms remind us: small things carry the blueprint of everything.

From Possibility to Reality - The Ace is the moment before the story begins. The atom is the building block before form takes shape. Both ask: What will you create with this?

Whether you're drawing cards or contemplating the building blocks of life, you're working with potential. The choice to engage with it, to nurture it, to shape it...that's where transformation happens.

Reflection Prompt

Is there an “Ace” moment in your life right now, a small spark asking for your attention?

What raw energy, like an atom waiting to bond, is floating just outside your awareness?

Sit with it. Let it swirl.

And when you're ready, build something beautiful from it.

Four of Swords: The Sacred Pause

May 11, 2025 by Lisa

Four of Swords of tarotIn a world that constantly demands our attention, productivity, and forward motion, the Four of Swords arrives like a whisper: “Rest.”

Not just physically.
But mentally. Emotionally. Energetically.

This card is an invitation to step back from the noise and give yourself permission to breathe. To be still. To recover. To integrate.

You don’t always have to be doing.
You don’t always have to figure it all out.
You don’t always have to have the answers.

The Pause is Part of the Process

The Four of Swords reminds us that rest is not weakness. It’s not laziness. It’s not wasted time.

It’s a vital part of healing.

Just as the body needs sleep to restore, the spirit needs stillness to process. When we step away from the pressure to “push through,” we create space for clarity, renewal, and insight to surface.

Reflection Prompt

  1. What would shift in my life if I gave myself permission to rest without guilt?
  2. How might your body feel?
  3. How might your thoughts settle?
  4. What new awareness might quietly rise?

A Sacred Reminder

  • Stillness is sacred.
  • Integration takes space.
  • Healing happens in the quiet.

Give yourself the grace of a pause. The world can wait.

Your well-being cannot.

Speed vs Velocity: Motion with Direction

May 4, 2025 by Lisa

Speed vs. Velocity graphic. Motion with direction.Have you ever felt like you were racing ahead - doing all the things, chasing all the sparks - yet not quite sure where it’s all going?

That’s the difference between speed and velocity.

Speed is motion.
Velocity is motion with direction.

In the tarot, this contrast comes alive through two powerful cards: The Knight of Wands and The Chariot.

The Knight of Wands: Bold but Unanchored

Knight of Wands from tarot minor arcanaThe Knight of Wands is full of energy, charisma, and fire. He rushes in with passion, ready to leap into the next adventure. But sometimes, he leaps before he looks. His excitement can become impulsiveness. His motion can lack purpose.

He reminds us of the times we act fast but feel scattered. When we’re busy, but not focused. When we confuse urgency with clarity.

The Chariot: Aligned and Determined

The Chariot, a major arcana tarot cardEnter the Chariot. Still fast, still driven—but in control. This card speaks of direction, willpower, and the triumph that comes from alignment. The Chariot doesn’t just move, it chooses a path and commits to it.

Where the Knight of Wands is reaction, The Chariot is intention.

A Tarot Spread: From Motion to Momentum

Use this 4-card spread to check in with your energy and direction:

  1. Where am I moving too fast without direction? What area of life feels rushed, chaotic, or unfocused?
  2. What needs to be aligned for purposeful progress? Where is your will, energy, and vision out of sync?
  3. What direction am I being called toward now? Tune in—what’s the true pull beneath the noise?
  4. How can I maintain momentum and control? What practices, boundaries, or mindset shifts will help you stay the course?

Let the Butterfly Guide You

Square orange butterfly graphicThe butterfly is a quiet reminder: transformation isn’t just about change - it’s about intentional change. Energy becomes transformation when it’s guided with care.

If you've been feeling like you're spinning your wheels, this is your sign. Pause. Reflect. Choose your direction.

You don't have to go faster.
You just have to go where your soul is leading.
