From “No, Because…” to “Yes, If…” — A Magician’s Mindset

May 19, 2025 by Lisa

Shetland Sheepdog that represents Magician of tarotHow many dreams have we silenced before they ever had a chance to grow?

We tell ourselves:
"No, because I don’t have time.”
"No, because I’m not ready."
'No, because what if I fail?"

It’s a script we know well, one that is rooted in fear, scarcity, and self-doubt. We think we’re being realistic. Safe. Sensible.

But what if we rewrote the script?

What if, instead of shutting the door, we cracked it open? What if we said:

"Yes, if I make the time."
"Yes, if I take one brave step."
"Yes, if I believe in myself, even just a little."

“Yes, if...” Opens the Door to Possibility.

The Magician, a major arcana tarot cardIt’s not about blind optimism. It’s about conditional courage, honoring what’s needed while still moving forward. This shift is exactly what The Magician in the tarot embodies.

The Magician reminds us that we already have the tools:

  • The wand of inspiration
  • The sword of truth
  • The cup of emotion
  • The pentacle of grounded effort

But tools alone don’t create magic. Intention does. Action does. Belief does.

When we shift from “No, because...” to “Yes, if...,” we move from passive doubt to active possibility. We become the creators of our own story.

Let this be the moment you say: Yes, if I trust my light.

The door is waiting. Will you open it?

Slow Magic: The Wisdom of Temperance

May 17, 2025 by Lisa

Tumbled stones that represent the Temperance cardOne of my quiet joys is rock tumbling. If you’ve never tried it, let me assure you - it’s perhaps the least instant gratification hobby you can imagine. You begin with a rough, unpolished stone. In my case, I started with a raw piece of Lace Agate...jagged, dusty, and seemingly unremarkable.

Then the process begins. Over weeks and months, through cycles of coarse grit, finer polish, water, and waiting, something miraculous happens. The rough edges wear down. The colors deepen. And one day, you pull out something radiant. The stone is transformed, but not by force. Only by time, motion, patience, and trust.

Temperance, a major arcana tarot cardThis long, gentle process reminds me of the Temperance card in tarot. Often misunderstood as simply a symbol of moderation, Temperance is so much more than that. It speaks of blending, the alchemy of opposites. It invites us to slow down, to balance extremes, and to surrender to the wisdom of time.

Temperance doesn't promise quick fixes or dramatic changes. It teaches that true transformation - whether in healing, self-growth, or spiritual awakening - requires time and trust. Just like a rock in a tumbler, we, too, are shaped by slow cycles: of insight, rest, integration, and return.

So, I ask you:

What’s something in your life that’s slowly taking shape right now?

What are you trusting will be beautiful...eventually?

Whether it’s a relationship, a dream, or an inner shift, may you find comfort in the process. Let Temperance remind you: there’s beauty in becoming.

Perspective Is Everything: Lessons from the Hanged Man

May 3, 2025 by Lisa

Image of the Hanged Man in TarotA child on the playground hangs from the monkey bars, giggling. For a moment, the world is upside down. The trees stretch downward. The clouds look like they’re falling. Nothing is broken, it’s just a new way of seeing.

This is the essence of The Hanged Man in tarot.

He’s not trapped. He’s choosing to stay suspended, choosing stillness so he can witness the world through a different lens. It’s uncomfortable. It defies the forward momentum we’re taught to crave. But it’s essential.

Same Sky, Different Stars

In the northern hemisphere, we grow up looking for the Big Dipper and Polaris. In the south, the sky tells a different story—featuring the Southern Cross and constellations shaped by other cultures, other myths.

Same sky. Different orientation.

The Hanged Man reminds us: truth doesn’t always lie in the facts—it lies in our angle of approach. What you see may not be what someone else sees. And that’s not wrong. That’s the sacred gift of perspective.

When Life Feels Like a Suspension

There are moments when we feel stuck, stalled, or slowed down. But what if those moments are not punishment, but preparation? Just like the child taking in the upside-down world—or the traveler discovering a new night sky—we're being invited to pause and perceive before moving forward.

Reflection Questions

  • Where in my life am I being asked to see things differently?
  • What if this pause is offering me insight I couldn’t access before?
  • What might shift if I let go of control and just hung with the unknown for a bit?

The Hanged Man doesn’t force clarity. He invites it. Through softness, surrender, and silence. So the next time the world feels upside down, ask yourself: Is this chaos? Or is it clarity from another direction?
